I am surprised, but also impressed that a book would cover slavery in America in the romance genre. I do like that the author portrays slavery as the horrific institution that it was and how cruel people treated those of African descent. I also like how strong lily is and how determined she is to find her mother. The friendship between James and Lily is not surprising to me because female slaves would take care of their master's children and develop a bond with them as the children grew up.

I feel like Lily is a character that is easy to fall inlove with. I wonder if the romance in this book developed naturally and realistically because I tend to lean towards historical novels with well-developed romance. I might give this a shot to find out!

This historical romance is a really beautiful novel. The reader is introduced to a slave, Lily who doubts herself but still takes a brave step in secretly practicing to play the piano of her Master. It turns out that she is truly gifted and this talent is soon discovered by her master's son James.

A love/hate relationship then develops between the two characters. The author of this novel really draws the reader into the plot with her skillful use of language. At times, it can be very poetic which will be appreciated by literature lovers.

This novel is full of love, passion, heartache and action. It is enjoyable from the very beginning to the end. I do recommend older readers for this one however as there are some intense scenes and there is also sexual content.

I am looking forward to book 2:)

Good review. Sounds like a great romance book. I want to know what happened to her mother and see if this steamy romance goes anywhere.

The dialogue did not disrupt the reading or story for me. Maybe I am used to it because I have read numerous books in my life that has verbiage such as this. I think it speaks more to the period of time and area.

Great review though, thanks so much. :tiphat:

The Prodigy Slave Book one: Journey to Winter Garden ~ is a book which tells of a story which reveals of Lily as a slave and having ripped from her mother's arm from an early age, she lived a life of being punished by her master's son. Even her very own father was not there for her as was expected.

The Graphic sex scenes are a bit too much. And the way lily is being torn away from mom no one deserves to be treated like that. I don't to much care for historical fiction.

This sounds like quite an interesting ride. I’m usually not one for romance novels, and I think this one would be too emotional for me. Thank you for your thorough review.
