Looking Glass Friends has won several awards, and rightfully so. This book covers a variety of topics often condemned by society. Suicide, adulty, affairs, and so much more. The story is focused around Ellie and Neil, though the author did not skimp on the development of the characters that surround them.

Neil and Ellie met in a coffee shop, and bonded over something as simple as a book by Ellie’s favorite author. Amazingly, this led to letters, and phone calls that touched on the topics of life, and ideals. The two shared a connection that is deep, tender, and unhindered… Except they’re both married to someone else. Throughout this story, I fought myself on whether I was rooting for the characters, or outraged at the destruction their relationship could cause to the world around them.

I loved the way the author brought life to the characters. The book is written so beautifully and with such emotion that you can feel the characters tones in each scene. If they were depressed, I felt it. If they were joyful, I felt it. This is a really important thing for me to find in a book. Rather than an author telling me that their character is sad, I want to feel that they are. E. L. Neve flawlessly managed to give me the emotion I crave when falling into a story. That is my favorite thing about this story.

The very first page of this book captured me, and I simply could not put the book down until I had finished it. What I really loved about this book, specifically, is the author's ability to add poetic quotations, and sophisticated quotes from old timey authors who have long passed. These quotes are placed perfectly and often lead to a significant change of perspective, whether from a character, or from a reader.

With all honesty, I didn’t find anything that I disliked most in the book. Unless we are counting the distaste for specific choices the characters made. (I cannot list that here, as they would be spoilers.) That aside, there were no ‘technical’ problems with the book. The characters were well developed, beautifully described, appropriate in reactions, and had a consistent personality throughout. The writing was done beautifully with excellent grammar and punctuation. The vocabulary was extensive and well researched.

I would recommend this novel to anyone who fancies a good romance. This one is not your everyday teen love story. I would say it’s appropriate for all ages, but geared more towards the 20 somethings and older. I would rate this romance with a whopping 4 out of 4 stars.
