You do not get to choose your family but you do choose how you deal with them. One Way or Another by Mary J. Williams is a romance novel where the theme is unconditional love. Except that love isn't the one between a man and a woman but it is between four sisters. Despite their privileged background, these sisters did not have the perfect childhood. They relied on each other for love and support which makes them some of the fiercest heroines I have read in years.

I rate this book a 4 out of 4 stars because the connection between the four sisters is simply perfection. I liked that the romance plays second fiddle to the love between the siblings. Normally you read about friends having an unbreakable bond or even twins but Williams bought something different to the table. The girls are all half-sisters only related because they shared the same womb and as a result of their unloving and sterile environment, they form this fortress around themselves that nothing can break. It is truly them against the world and I believe that is inspiring. I also liked that the quartet didn't let their environment influence them. With the world at their feet, they could just bask in their riches without a care in the world. Instead, each girl follows their passion and make a name for themselves outside the one given to them.

The only thing I disliked about the novel is the fact that the motive behind Ingo Hunter is still unclear. Why is he targeting the quartet? Is their mother really so self-absorbed she can't sense her daughters' discomfort? I have so many questions but I didn't get them answered in this book. However, I have no issue with reading the entire series until it is revealed. I have already started on the next book in the series. I'm excited to see how each sister falls in love and who they fall in love with.

This novel was exceptionally well written and the characters were loveable. This story made me laugh and frustrated. You're supposed to be engrossed by the plot and the characters which Williams did beautifully. I suggest this for anyone that's partial to romance but a firm believer in family. I don't recommend to cynical people. The four women in this book are true heroines. They have many odds against them but together they can get through anything.
