Midwinter Turns to Spring by Maria Veloso is a romance fictional genre about. It is a story about broken romance, broken hearts and the pursuit to rebuild the broken relationship. The leading characters Savannah Curtis and Alfonso Madrigal had met while the latter was a student at the university while the former had been a specialist in arts who had been invited to give a lecture on arts and drawings. Alfonso is intrigued by Savannah's beauty from the time she sets his eyes on her. There is something strange about her that he could not explain about. Their love story is told through intimate songs that Alfonso Madrigal writes for her loved one, Savannah. Savannah also keeps a strong journal about their love story. Unfortunately, their love story has a tumultuous end. Savannah has been on the run from Madrigal for the past twenty six years. On the other hand Alfonso has been searching for her for the past twenty six years. While Savannah is on the run, she gets into an accident, gets severe head injuries and consequently gets an amnesia. Alfonso long search ends when he finally finds Savannah on the hospital bed. There are many things he still wanted to tell her, things he had failed to tell her. How he had searched for her. But would she be able to recognize him in the midst of her lost memory? Would their love story be rekindled?

I loved the romance that existed between Savannah and Madrigal prior to their break up. Their was a heart to heart love that seemed unbreakable. Their love is conveyed through songs and fine pieces of art. Alfonso used to write many heartwarming songs to her love Savannah. On the other hand, Savannah keeps a personal journal about their romance and adventures. Songs and pieces of art conveyed heartening message that mouths could not express. The author asserts that it was just impossible for anybody to read about their love life and remain unchanged. Their love story is a recipe that would enrich many love lives.

I was awed by the styles the author uses to write this book. The author uses styles including suspense, vivid description, flashbacks and figurative language in writing this book. These styles enhanced the taste of this book's narration. I was particularly intrigued by the style of suspense that looms after Alfonso finally gets in touch with Savannah. I was eager to know whether Savannah would acknowledge him in her newly found condition. What would be the fate of their romance story? I felt that their love story would be incomplete if it ended prematurely. Suspense thus made me to read the the book to learn about their fate.

Another feature I loved in the novel is its plot development. This book's plot is direct and easily comprehensible. From the moment I began reading this novel, I could tell it was a romance genre. The narration is so simple, direct and just flows straight from its onset. I knew it was a fantastic romance genre only that I didn't know how it would end. I had no difficulty mastering its contents.

There is nothing I disliked in this novel. I rate it at 4 out of 4 stars. It is packed with a romance story that is compelling and I could not put it down, once I began reading it. The story was just fascinating. I recommend it to all persons interested in romance genres. They would be enriched by the love story of Alfonso and Savannah. However, persons with no interests in romance genres may look for other novels. This novel is exceptionally well edited.
