What do you do when you find the one person who soothes your soul?

Midwinter Turns to Spring by Maria Veloso is a beautifully written novel about love for eternity.
“All of us yearn for a love that transcends height and depth, time and distance, life and even death.”

Savannah has always strived for perfection. Her father demanded it. Yet he deserted her when she was only 8 years old. What did she do wrong? With her mother's death just one year later, she is forced to live with her Aunt Sabine. Savannah appreciates everything her Aunt Sabine does for her, but she has learned to distance her heart from love. She will never have someone hurt her again. Russell, her future husband, is no exception. She realizes she is not deeply in love with him, but he makes her feel safe. Russell often reminds her that she is the perfect wife for him. Her path is set.

Alfonso loved growing up at Villa Madrigál, his grandmother's home in Málaga, Spain. She opened his heart to music, particularly the Flamenco guitar. She taught him to appreciate the beauty of nature and art. It is this love of art that brings Savannah and Alfonso together. His Abuelita gave him a beautiful painting which could potentially be an undiscovered work of Picasso. Alfonso's wife Isabel believes if he sells this painting, they will be able to afford a better home. He desires to keep his family happy. Isabel is a wonderful mother to Cristina, their daughter. And Cristina is so sweet, intelligent and perceptive beyond her years.

I loved the detail in the background stories of the main characters in this novel. I felt like they were real and believable. There was just enough information about each side character in the story that they fit in perfectly but did not detract from the main storyline. There was no area of the novel that I disliked. There were a couple of chapters that I felt dragged slightly, but when compared to many great chapters that pulled you in, this is nothing to detract from this novel.

I had a very difficult time putting this book down. I needed to know what the next chapter would bring. It was very beautifully edited. I only noticed one minor spelling mistake. There was no profanity. I rate this book, 4 out of 4 stars. This book will appeal to those who enjoy romance novels. If you also love Spanish culture as I do, then this book is one you will want to read.
