Looking Glass Friends: A Novel Inspired By Real Love Letters by E L Neves is a fictionaL novel of two married couples whose marriages have lost their savor. Jake and Ellie have been living in a cordial union for over a year and are focused on keeping their five-year-old son Johnny happy. Neil and Fay continued to have a physical relationship, but Neil had become emotionally detached.

Neil and Ellie's paths crossed at the bakery where he works when he unselfishly gave Ellie the last of the cream puffs for her son. To thank him, Ellie bought him a copy of her favorite book, "Atlas Shrugged," by Ayn Rand. After reading the book, Neil felt like his life had a purpose again. He returned the book to Ellie with a note inside to which she responded with a letter. The two began communicating by email on a nightly basis and formed a special friendship. Soon Neil was calling Ellie every night as well as emailing. They saw themselves as soul mates. When Jake and Fay began to question them, they became more discreet about talking, but neither wanted to end their communication. Was this more than just a friendship? Were they becoming obsessed with each other?

Neves paints a vivid picture of each character that lets the reader see inside their very souls. There are very few secondary characters as the main focus is on Ellie, Neil, Jake, and Fay. The author's writing style captures the essence of each character's emotions. Ellie and Neil's relationship comes alive in the narrative, and the reader will find themselves immersed in the story. The reader can feel the anger and pain of Jake and Fay as the relationship between Neil and Ellie progresses.

What I liked most about this book is the author's imagination in the development of the characters. To write a story that grabs the heartstrings of the reader takes exceptional talent. There wasn't anything I disliked about this book. It brought all of my emotions to the surface. I felt bad for Jake and Fay, yet I found myself wanting Neil and Ellie's relationship to continue. The story has a beautiful ending that does not disappoint. Romance lovers will fall in love with this novel. There is a small number of curse words scattered throughout the book. And, there is one bedroom scene between Jake and Ellie that is not erotic but may be disturbing to some, especially to younger readers.

The book is well-edited; I only found one error. The storyline was fascinating and unique, and the book was well-written from beginning to end. For those reasons, I am happy to give Looking Glass Friends by E L Neve 4 out of 4 stars. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves romance novels. It is a great read, and I enjoyed it immensely. I caution the parents of young teens due to the graphic bedroom scene.
