Review by parisswet111+ -- Midwinter Turns to Spring
Midwinter Turns to Spring is an incredible story that accentuates the unyielding power of true love and the difference it makes in our lives. The book tells the story of Savannah Curtis and her love for a Spanish Flamenco guitarist, Alfonso Madrigál. Savannah is a young and talented artist. She first meets Alfonso in the University of San Fransisco, where she came to deliver a lecture on the works of Pablo Picasso. Alfonso is fond of his native Andalusian and Flamenco culture and adores his hometown Málaga, a port city in the south of spain. He moves to America in search of better prospects and also to escape from the grips of his past. Their story remains buried beneath the heaviness of past actions until one day the new tenant of the Victorian house at 201 Pacific Avenue, Cassidy Hamilton, a paralegal in San Fransisco, discovers Savannah's journal in a secret drawer, more than two decades later.
Little did Savannah know that a chance encounter with a man who hardly looked like the right choice for her, would turn her life upside down. Alfonso seeks her help regarding a painting he bequeathed from his grandmother after her death, in Málaga and she agrees to help him. Eventually, the desire of two soulful artists converge and blossoms into love.
The brooding, intense and handsome Alfonso breathes life into Savannah and saves her from crumbling under the weight of self-imposed restrictions and conformity. With her love, Alfonso begins to tame his youthful rage and his longing for her fills his music with such fire that would flame intense emotions in the crowd. However, Savannah is deeply plagued by her traumatic childhood and her sorrowful past takes control of her adult life as well. This book relates the story of Alfonso and Savannah, and of their love that is dictated by sacrifice and heartbreak.
The author Maria Veloso perfectly blends the emotions accompanying love and human values together to serve the readers an extraordinary tale about the power of love to transform and transcend a human being; the kind of love which defies time and expectations. Love speaks loud and clear through the various songs and paintings described in the book.
Maria Veloso is an incredible writer. She seems like an artist of words. Her appealing choice of words, linguistic clarity, vivid descriptions of characters and use of overpowering sentiments are captivating and enrapturing, which makes this book really engaging. Through this book, she tries to portray a very new dimension of love.
I rate this book 4 out of 4. There are very few errors in the book. But it is professionally edited. What I liked about this book in order to give it a full rating is that this story brings to light previously unknown aspects of love and its purpose in life. The structure of the story is good and the style adopted is coherent and captivating; and therefore, there is nothing that I dislike about this book. The inclusion of songs imparts more feelings and a soul to the story.
I recommend this book to all adult readers as I'm sure that they will find it a good and engaging read. Those who are fond of reading genre of romance will not be disappointed by reading this book.
The indispensable theme of this book is principally the idea that true love always finds its way towards you. It is never lost but re-emerges with time, just like a pentimento in an artist's painting.
