One Way or Another by Mary J. Williams is a lovely romance novel that will capture the heart of any reader looking for a good love story. This is the first book in a new series titled The Sisters Quartet and after reading this one, I am very much looking forward to the next book!

Each book in this series focuses on a different Benedict sister with the first book featuring Calder. The other sisters, Andi, Bryce, and Destry will be the main characters in later books in the series, but take supporting roles in this story. I really like that this series has a sisterly bond element that will continue to be featured throughout the series. Their relationship has a unique twist on a traditional family, as each sister has the same mother, but a different father. I felt that this difference in the girls gave them strength as characters, but it also helped to develop who they are in the story. These girls grew on me, and I am excited to see their stories continued. They each have a distinct personality and I felt like they were long-lost friends of mine by the end of the book.

I loved Calder, the main character in this first book. She is a likable, sweet, and caring person. Her relationship with Adam is just a wonderful love story. I couldn’t help but fall in love with Adam a little bit, and I became completely invested in their lives. Mary J. Williams writes about them in a way that makes their love take on a fairy-tale element, but at the same time, it feels like a real story. Their attraction seems immediate, but their relationship takes some time to develop, giving the reader a chance to fall in love with them. When they do finally come together, the details are quite steamy with some graphic sexual details that may be offensive for some readers.

My only complaint about this book was the overall character development of Adam, Calder’s love interest. I felt that he was a bit one-dimensional and I would have liked to see a bit more personality, good or bad, come out of him. On the whole, this did not affect my enjoyment of this book, and I look forward to seeing more growth from Adam in the second book of the series.

The plot for One Way or Another focuses a lot on the introduction of the Benedict sisters. The girls each have a different father and their mother uses and discards men. They have grown up wary of relationships, choosing to guard their hearts, rather than be hurt. When Calder and Adam meet, the attraction is clear, but Calder must be willing to let her guard down to allow their relationship to grow.

Overall, I really enjoyed One Way or Another. It was a well-written love story with beautiful characters that are enjoyable and captivating. I found the book to be well-edited as I did not find any grammatical errors. I am rating One Way or Another a four out of four stars and would recommend it to any reader that enjoys a romance story with strong female characters and heartwarming subplots.
