Review by Moray_001 -- 2612 Cherryhill Lane by Glenn Vo
2612 Cherryhill Lane is a wonderful romance novel written by Glenn Vo. As far as romance novels go, this particular one is a touchdown! The story tells the journey of Jonathan McCalister, who is the star quarterback of the Katy Tigers and is on the brink of having a fabulous life ahead of him. Life seems perfect until the accident that claims his legs and his sister's life because he was texting and driving. His perfect family is broken apart and his girlfriend, Lacey, cannot continue their relationship. Jonathan's life seems hopeless until he meets Samantha, who is his new personal assistant. She helps him reconnect with God and realize that despite his situation, God still has a plan for him.
I love how easy it is to follow the story. The author did a good job of writing a book that the readers can relate to in various areas of life. Glenn Vo also demonstrated some knowledge of American football and how exciting the game can be. This is obvious in the football terms and gameplays that are used in the book. Although I am not too familiar with the game, it didn't deter me from enjoying the book because he has a simple writing style.
I was relieved to find that this book did not contain fluff or fillers that are completely irrelevant to the main plot. The writer was able to go straight to the main story and keep me hooked to the end. Kudos to the writer! I enjoyed how Jonathan's character arc developed throughout the story. He went from carefree to depressed and stuck in a rut. Afterwards, he fell in love and we saw how it brought a positive change to his life.
However, life isn't always smooth sailing and we saw how other challenges affected him but he was motivated to become a better person. I love the way the author told a touching story of love, God, family and dealing with loss. While I read this book, it sort of reminded of me of the movie, Me Before You, but with a less tragic ending.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars because it is well-edited and I did not find anything in particular to dislike. I recommend it for those who love a slow burn romance novel and books about Christianity. It is also a good read for those who love sports and young adult novels. It is not recommended for those who love to read fast-paced action novels or steamy romance novels. The story focuses on themes of love, God, Christianity, disability, loss, forgiveness and hope.
