Heartaches 2 by H. M. Irwing is a romance novel about how love can endure many obstacles put in your path and the struggles of lovers. The story is centered on the sexual assaults Anna and Rafe had to endure in their past. The book has friendship, betrayal, love, drama and suspense which is the perfect combination for a great romance book. The recommended audience for this book would be mature adults since there is sexual content.

Heartaches 2 is the second installment in the Bad Boy Vibes series. It captures Anna’s and Rafe’s life as a couple in military school who were sexually assaulted in the past. They are haunted by their nightmares, but their strong love makes them dependent on each other through every obstacle they face. Their love and protectiveness for each other is what gives them the strength to go on and try to heal from their nightmares even though their enemies are at large and trying everything to interfere. They decide they will fight their enemies but only together. Anna and Rafe seek out vengeance to counter their attacks. Then, the story ends on a cliffhanger filled with suspense and longing.

I like how well developed the characters were, especially the friendship between Anna and Pat. The author has a way of telling the story as if your right beside the characters watching and feeling everything around them. I like how the physical altercations were written in just enough detail which left your imagination to fill in the rest. I like how Irwing is able to show that assault victims can overcome the victim mentality and begin the healing process through a support system of friends. I like how Anna and Rafe find comfort and strength in each other, with just a simple hand squeeze or a look.

I didn’t like the ending because it finishes on a cliffhanger. Leaving the reader with questions unanswered and unexecuted plans of vengeance which ultimately makes the reader wanting to read on to the next novel.

I would give this book a 4 out of 4 stars rating because it was well put together, and the plot of the story is easy to follow. I didn’t find any grammatical errors which means the book is professionally edited. Introducing the secondary characters like Pat and Aunt Bella at the precise time was a genius move by the author because it makes you want to read more of their struggle and success stories.
