The Lesbian Whisperer by Taylor S. Norman is a collection of five short stories about lesbian relationships. The book is the first part of a trilogy that aims to spread awareness and support for the LGBT community. “This Night” describes Taylor’s first sexual experience with a woman. In “Birthday Sex!” she enjoys a spa day with her girlfriend, Madeline. In “Air France” and “An Italian Affair,” she explores Paris and Florence with another lover, Monica. In the last story, “Emelia,” Taylor narrates her encounter with a woman in a museum in London and the days full of love that they spent together.

There are four main themes that encompass the stories: travel, romantic relationships, gender identity, and sex. It was pleasant to read how the different places Taylor visits, such as Paris, Florence, and London, intertwine with her romantic relationships. She explores each city with her girlfriends, taking pleasure in enjoying local cuisine and visiting art galleries together. Taylor also takes us on a journey of exploration of romantic relationships. She describes the excitement of meeting someone new and the agony of knowing you’re about to separate from the person you love.

My favorite aspect of The Lesbian Whisperer is the exploration of the delicate and complex topic of gender identity, and more specifically of identifying with a gender that does not align with one’s biological sex. Taylor expresses that she is “a man in a woman’s body” and that she thinks, acts, dresses, and walks like a man. The author also delves into the topic of sexual orientation and the harmful biases that are attached to it. For example, Emelia keeps questioning her attraction to Taylor by refusing the possibility of her being bisexual or lesbian, reinforcing her heterosexuality. These are experiences that are often left unexplored in literature, and I appreciate Taylor S. Norman for being open about them in this collection. I also liked that the author weaved these reflections into the storylines, albeit she did so quite superficially.

In fact, sex is the central topic of this collection, and the other themes take a less prominent place in the stories. The sexual relationships between Taylor and her lovers are described explicitly, and the author spares no detail. Taylor S. Norman explores each experience with passion, in true erotica style. While the sexual descriptions were exciting and enjoyable to read in the beginning, they became repetitive as the author narrated them over and over in each story. I felt like the themes that I mentioned in the previous paragraph definitely took a backseat as sex became the real protagonist of this collection.

The book does not appear professionally edited. Errors are numerous and distracting: “quiet” instead of “quite,” “too” instead of “to,” and “commitment phoebe’s” instead of “commitment-phobes” are just some examples of the poor editing in this collection. Furthermore, I often had to read sentences multiple times in order to understand what was written. While some sentences were grammatically correct, the writing style compromised their readability. For example, consider the following sentence:
“This book is my soul and how I love, and through various life experiences, and mini adventures, sexual in parts, my life, and who I am unfolded always coming from a place of pure love.”
The sentence is correct, but the placement of commas made it close to unreadable. It took me minutes just to figure out what the author wanted to say in this brief passage. Lastly, the narration often switches from the past to the present tense and vice versa without an apparent reason. This was rather confusing.

I rate The Lesbian Whisperer by Taylor S. Norman 2 out of 4 stars. While the themes covered are interesting, this collection of short stories needs proofreading and editing work to improve its readability and the balance between the narration and the sexual descriptions. I still recommend this book to readers who enjoy erotica literature and books that center around LGBT experiences. If you are someone who dislikes profanity and sexual descriptions, I recommend you steer clear of this book.

This must have been one crazy read😄. While I like the premise of this book, love and sexuality, the reptitive explicit sexual ordeal would be a turn off for me; sex scenes are better when fewer, otherwise, the become cliche.
Thank you for the interesting review.

When a book is repetitive it mostly gives me a pause. I'd pass on this. I found the harmful biases that comes with sexual orientation quite intriguing. Thanks for the well detailed review.

Wow I can see this becoming a TV series. While I do not mind erotica all that much, I think that the amount that is in this book is a bit much. Thanks for the honest review!

I'm impressed that you finished this book. The sentence you quoted was quite a unique one and I'm not sure I could have made it through the book with an idea of what was happening. Hopefully with some work on editing and the removal of repetitive areas this book can be turned around. Your review was very respectful and well written.

That sounds like a really interesting read, although I commend you for getting through all those errors! It's unfortunate that important themes like the ones in this book are lost because of the poor editing. Thanks so much for your thorough review!

As fun and quirky as this seems to be, I too feel as if the constant grammatical errors would be a distraction from the actual content. Erotica isn’t an issue, even the amount, as long as it is done so tastefully. I’ll perhaps give this a try.
