Echoes of Paradise by Deanna Kahler is a paranormal love story that stuns with its warmth, painfulness and intensity as it begs to answer, "Does love survive death?" which is not easy in an environment of modern-day normality and detachment. The story follows the romance of Celeste and Connor, who seems to be made for each other. Coming out of an abusive relationship, Connor was a god-sent for Celeste. But by a quirk turn of fate, Connor is offered a teaching position in Rome which he takes up. Soon, time and distance brought its problems resulting in Celeste marrying Dave, partly forced on her by circumstances.
However, Celeste's marriage to Dave never really took off. Her heart still longs for the love of her life, Connor. But in time, a son, Chip, was born. Both Dave and Celeste are trying hard to make their marriage work for the sake of their son. It was during this trying time that Celeste receives a message that Connor is moving back. But tragedy strikes, and Connor dies in a plane crash. Celeste is filled with grief and blamed herself for Connor's death. And soon something extraordinary happens. Chip, who is now five years old, says that he is seeing an angel. When prodded to describe the angel, it fits the description of Connor. Celeste is convinced that Connor is trying to contact her.
Echoes of Paradise is a poignant story of love, loss and hope. It is a story of how compromising with little things in life can create irreparable damages, which can have lasting impact in life, even to the extent of causing immeasurable misery. Life and wrong choices, abetted by faulty decisions, can separate people physically but the spirit and emotions of one's true feeling can't be kept apart when two hearts are meant to be together. The afterlife painted by the author is truly incredible. With fully developed characters, page-turning plot to keep one enthralled all throughout, and a truly satisfying ending, this novel is a delightful read.
