Midwinter Turns to Spring is a romance novel written by Maria Veloso. Cassidy Hamilton, a paralegal, rents a Victorian Apartment, where she comes across a journal in a hidden drawer. The journal belongs to Savannah Curtis, an artist, who used to live in the same apartment twenty-six years ago. The journal recounts the brief affair of Savannah Curtis and Alfonso Madrigal, a flamenco guitarist. All the events mentioned in the journal had happened in the same apartment twenty-six years ago. Cassidy is astonished with the abrupt ending of the story but soon realizes that it is yet to be finished. Their incomplete love story and her own need to believe in love again drives Cassidy to reunite them. After twenty-six years, time has again given a chance for the completion of the love story of the two lovers. Will their story have a meaningful ending? Will they overcome all the challenges to reunite with each other?

The story is set in San Francisco and in Mendocino. All the places mentioned in the book are very descriptive and imaginable. I especially loved the description of the Victorian apartment. I also loved the way Alfonso's thoughts about the apartment are described metaphorically. I appreciate the author's metaphoric writing style which made the reading experience much more powerful as well as meaningful. I also applaud the author for clear and to the point descriptions of art terms and musical terms that helps understand the difficult terms easily. I also applaud the author's ability to describe the characteristics of each character at different ages. The change in the tone of the book from first person to third person is very smooth and transitions of past and present times don't disturb the flow of the story which made my reading experience much more enjoyable.

I liked the way the miraculous power of love is described the most. All the emotional states of each character are vividly described adding meaning to the events in the life of each character. The author has done a fantastic job in writing all the songs in the book. On the whole I enjoyed reading the book very much.

There is nothing that I disliked about the book. The book is professionally edited except for a minor spelling mistake.Hence, I would like to give a rating of 4 out of 4 stars to the book.

I would recommend the book to the audience who enjoys reading about deep and passionate love.
