Mysteries and Secrets by Janice Angelique is a novel about a young lady named Jinnette. She was a lively, disciplined teenager who loved school. She lived with her grandmother Gigi, who adored her, provided for her, and protected her. Gigi left her birthplace and moved farther away because she believed Jin was not safe. Gigi was a Rastafarian and taught Jin the values and practices of her Rastafarian people. She sadly passed away in a freak accident, and what Jin witnessed on the day Gigi died was unimaginable, and it shook her to the core. From that day on, she instantly became a mute and never uttered a word until several years later.

Faced with the loss of her grandmother and voice, Jin fell into despair and faced a series of challenges in her lonely life. Despite these challenges, she graduated as the youngest neuroscientist before the age of twenty years. From then on, her life took a dramatic turn. She fell in love with a young man who was just as in love with her. She also met a family she never knew existed. A Rastafarian family whose ways of living defied the fundamentals of physics. A family shrouded in mysteries and secrets. She soon discovered that her newly found family possessed supernatural powers. Will these discoveries and revelations drive the scientist away, or has she found a home?

There were many positive aspects that I liked from this book. The author’s writing style is captivating, and it left me hanging onto every word. The description of the Rahjah’s homestead transported me from my couch straight to the land of the Rahjah people that boasts lush green vegetation, blooming wildflowers, magnificent mountain views, and among many other beautiful sceneries; a calming waterfall that flows into a refreshing river. Characters were entertaining and possessed wisdom beyond their years. The storyline was believable, educational, and the book merged seamlessly from one chapter to the next.

I dislike the fact that the book ends just as Jin’s romantic relationship blossoms. I am also slightly disgruntled because this book falls within the romance genre, but the romance part does not even make up half of this novel.

The negative aspect of this book was the unmissable punctuation errors, typos, and grammatical errors. The errors were plenty and warranted the deduction of a star. Overall, I award the book 3 out of 4 stars as I was thoroughly engaged and entertained.

The language used in the book is mostly clean and with a handful of profane words. The romantic scenes are palatable, and the book contains no explicit scenes.

Readers who enjoy romance novels will thoroughly enjoy this one as it contains tantalizing scenes that will leave you hooked. Readers who like stories about the Rastafarian’s way of life or those interested in their lifestyles will also delight in this book.

Wow.
I would love to read this novel.
But I like my romance novels with a healthy dose of romance in them, except if they aren't romance novels at all.

Thanks for an interesting review.

The story is beautiful but not with a good ending or editing. The characters sound amazingly defined. It must have been a shock for Jin and your summary tells about the effect Gigi's death had on her. Thank you for a wonderful review!

I love how Jin's grandmother is so invested in her safety and development. Parents, the world over, should emulate that. Great review.

Mysteries, secrets, long-lost families, supernatural powers, and mutism triggered by a psychological trauma?! Wow, this book clearly has much to offer (and that waterfall sounds amazing)! I hope that the author can address the noted editorial mistakes in a future revision. Thank you for your review!

The plot was engaging when I read your summary. But knowing that the book does not even fulfill the genre it falls under is a major shame. I hope the author will also take the errors into account. Thanks for your honest and thorough review!
