I once read Heart of the Highland Wolf by Terry Spear and found it boring. I read her other stuff later and knew she could have done better on that one.

Yes. Though James Patterson is no longer my favorite author, his books consumed me for a period of time in my middle school days. I had read his more mature novels before I read the Maximum Ride series. I loved the first three, but absolutely hated The Final Warning. While I still enjoy his more adult focused pieces, I remember feeling really ashamed of him :D

Divine Evil by Nora Roberts - it's the only one of hers that I haven't kept. Interactions between the villain and the (unaware) protagonist were creepy, and the book's climax did not provide relief/satisfaction.

My reaction to Void Moon by Michael Connelly was not 'hate' so much as severe disappointment, because it was so far below his usual standard.
