The novel starts rather abruptly with the three friends hanging out together and gets straight into describing their activities, thoughts and actions. The kids go to classes, meet new friends and start new relationships, all while their friendships to each other mold and twist about. The majority of the book revolves around this, with the three of them together at the university. The last third of the book describes the friends’ experiences after they leave college and move on with their lives. There are many ups and downs that they all experience, both together and apart.
Unfortunately, I did not enjoy this book at all and I cannot find anything positive to say about it. I do not like saying this and I would much rather be encouraging to the author, but in this case I cannot.
There are numerous things I did not like about this book. The biggest issue with this novel is that it is either badly translated from another language, or the author doesn’t have a good handle on the English language. The book is riddled with grammatical errors, punctuation that is either incorrectly utilized or missing, and often words are used in a way that doesn’t even make sense to the story, or any English sentence. There were many instances in this novel where character names were incorrect for the situation (as in, character A and B are having a conversation, but the names of character C and/or D were inserted instead). These errors made this book extremely difficult to read; at least every 10 pages I had to stop and say to myself, “What? That doesn’t make any sense.” I stuck through and read the entire book, hoping that it would eventually level itself out and become more comprehensible, but it pains me to say that it failed to do so. While reading this I felt like I was reading someone’s musings that they just jotted down as quickly as possible and had published as a novel without a second thought to its quality. I think this story needs to be edited several times, by someone who understands very well both the English language and its proper use, as well as whatever the author’s native language is.
I have to give this book 1 out of 4 stars only because I cannot give it a zero. I would not recommend this book to anyone because it is such an awful read in its current state. I don’t like to give a book a bad rating but I have to be honest and say that it is completely terrible and not entertaining to read whatsoever. I would encourage the author to find a good editor as I mentioned above, or make sure to improve her English before attempting to write another novel in this language.
