Breathing Life into a Faded Heart is a romance novelette by A. Reece. It is based on a true story about a woman who spends a weekend away in the Caribbean with her girlfriends. She expected to have the kind of fun and comfort only a woman's best friends can provide, however she also found something she wasn't expecting, love. It may have been the wrong time, but it was the one thing she needed the most.

Michelle is in a cold, loveless relationship. She hardly spends any time with the man who is supposed to love her and feels like the kind of relationship she dreams of is only meant for fairy tales. Even though she has given up in the love department, she has the best friends a girl could ask for. They have always been there for her, and they always will be. When they take a trip to the Caribbean, Michelle is in for quite a surprise. She has given up on love, but love has not given up on her.

This book has actual depth and a plot that keeps you interested. Michelle is not just some girl who meets some guy and falls in love. You get to know her, her friends and her life. You can actually feel her pain and understand her need to be loved. Many romance novels tend to oversimplify and just focus on how the man and woman meet and fall in love with very little description or back story. It can feel a bit rushed. Reece does not do this at all. It feels real, maybe because it actually is a true story, which also weighs on your mind while you're reading.

As far as complaints, I just have a few that are nit-picky. Some parts were overly descriptive, and they were very simple descriptions. The book could have used some complexity in the words that were used, however it did not take away from the overall reading experience.

Overall, I would give this book a 3 out of 4. I liked the story, the depth with which it was written, and Michelle. While reading, I could actually feel the way Michelle felt and understand her. She wasn't the whiney, broken, 'please, love me!' kind of woman that can often be portrayed in romance novels. The writing was definitely simplistic, but I did not find myself bored. If you're looking for a pleasant, easy romance read, I would definitely recommend you check out this book.
