This is a story of a female protagonist Rachel, who loses the love of her life to another woman, after having given 4 years of her life to him. The story moves at a fast pace, giving the reader a quick shot of her past with her boyfriend Jarrett who informs her that he has found someone else. In a few moments Rachel becomes his best friend from his girlfriend, and he happily shares his intention to marry the new girl very soon. Dejected Rachel traces her past negative encounters with men so far in her life, and decides she has had enough of them. The author does not waste time in making her wallow in self-pity but immediately introduces the reader to Rachel’s first woman friend, who also leads her into the world of woman to woman sex.
There after follows a series of steamy and innovative sex scenes referred to as ‘sexual healing’, much to Rachel’s surprise and enjoyment. She discovers a new life altogether. Just when the readers would think that a new chapter in her life has begun, there is a quick twist and a new character is introduced. More of erotica ensues, which is described by the author graphically and with elaborate detail. The flow of the story continues at the same time, and keeps the reader glued on. The end is definitely a surprise, and in a way funny. The author makes a neat satisfactory conclusion and does not leave any loose ends.
An interesting read with an unusual story that is in line with its title. Each character is given a substantial role to play and has been portrayed well. Their descriptions are detailed, and leave little to the imagination. While the story is written as a narrative by Rachel, during the later part, it becomes a narrative by the second date that she finds. A little confusing, but it meets its purpose of intricately describing the sexual thoughts running into each of their minds. The encounter with Kathryn is shown to be promising, but it turns to be fairly short-lived, which is surprising. While the twist towards the end is funny, the world turning out to be so small as shown, sounds improbable. Same goes for the quick sex scene in the hospital. However, in the spirit of the story, these could be acceptable.
The little suspense or mystery left in the end adds to fun. If not for the erotica, this novella could have been termed as comedy or humor genre! A well written story, that meets the purpose of intelligently written erotica.
