Review of Chameleons
Zia is a junior agent at Sparks, one of the largest publishing houses in Los Angeles. Zia has been away at a conference in New York. Upon her return, she runs into a rather creepy gentleman on the elevator. Later, she runs into him again in the cafeteria while partaking in lunch with Jazz. Zia suffers from social anxiety, yet Jazz wants to network with other people in Fargo Towers. Jazz is ecstatic that Zia may have a love interest. However, Zia is not looking for romance but ideally wants to focus on her career. Succeeding has become supremely important to Zia. A book idea she passed on Makayla snagged. Makayla ended up being promoted and made some serious money for the find. Zia does obtain a promising lead; however, it could either launch her career or demolish it. What happens with the book idea? Does Zia fall for the creepy guy in the elevator? You will have to read the book to obtain the ever-twisting answers because you will discover no spoilers here.
Chameleon by Onyx Gold is book one in the Chameleon series. It is a fast-paced read with tons of twists and turns that will leave you guessing. I was immediately drawn into the story. The author accomplished a fantastic job of penning the characters. There was a particular instance in the book where Zia experienced an anxiety attack. The description was so detailed I felt as though I was suffering one myself. My favorite characters were Jazz and Bryce. I was hesitant about Bryce, but he revealed his best side later in the book. There were times I felt terrible for the guy and times I questioned his character. Ultimately, I experienced nothing but sheer admiration for him.
Jazz is not surprisingly Zia's sole friend. She loves to go out and meet people, and she desperately drags Zita with her at every turn. I never questioned Jazz’s loyalty to Zia, but there were some areas you may find yourself questioning her character.
I liked the overall storyline the most. I enjoy a story that leaves me guessing, and I found myself questioning all aspects and characters. I was equally pleased with how graphic the story was at times. I realize most people may not enjoy the more graphic sides of romance novels, but I do. They are some of my favorites. I will say there are some references in the more graphic areas which come off as odd. They constitute the parts I disliked the most. The author could have used better wording in those areas.
Chameleon by Onyx Gold was a great read. I would recommend it for mature readers only as it does contain graphic violence and erotic content. Anyone who enjoys more graphic romance novels and mysteries may enjoy this book. While it was professionally polished, I did discover a few grammatical errors. However, they did not hinder my reading. Therefore, I am awarding Chameleon by Onyx Gold a well-deserved 4 out of 4 stars.
