Romance is a genre I have come to adore and prefer over other genres. Admittedly, I am quite new to it - only two or three years - but I do understand the concept, and I believe I can now say, in certain, when a love story works and when it doesn't.

And in the case of Ms. Lance's book, Bound In Love, the love story most definitely didn't work.

When Gods argue over trivial things, it seems only natural for them to involve mortals in their games. Thus, Aphrodite, the Goddess of Love, decides to use two souls to show her arrogant son, Eros, that she is by far the superior one in creating love. And so, two soul mates are born. Annabel Grayson and Drake Stone. One is a mousy, quiet woman who can't find the right man for her - all because she always compares possible suitors with her favorite DJ and finds none of them to be enough. So she can't resist joining a Bachelor Auction where Drake, who happens to be said DJ, is one of the bachelors being auctioned. The other is a man who has a lot of women wishing to call him theirs, but has found satisfaction in none of them. He knows taking part in the Auction will be of no help, but he's doing it as a favor to his sister - and ends up finding the one woman meant for him. But when someone cheats and destroys their chance to be together, Drake will have to find a way to meet with the mysterious blondette again.

While this book promised a fun and romantic read - at least, that's how I pictured it when I read the blurb - it was anything but that. I understand that this was supposed to be a short story, but I've read examples of such tales where, despite not being more than 100 pages, the books gave the readers characters with depth, fast paced plot, and witty lines. Unfortunately, Ms. Lance gave us a good and interesting plot with a lot of potential that failed to deliver. There were only one or two lines in the story that were not boring and mundane, and the characters couldn't make me feel involved with the story no matter how hard they tried.

I rate this book 1 out of 4 stars. I don't know if it will work for someone else, but it left me unsatisfied and hanging, with way too little action and a main cast that needed more work to seem real and three-dimensional.
