Clarity by Loretta Lost is a contemporary romance mixed with a psychological thriller. Helen is a blind writer who undergoes a traumatic event that forces her into seclusion. One day while Helen is writing in her hidden away cabin she receives some unexpected visitors at the door. Despite her basic instinct to hide herself away she decides to trust the doctors that came knocking at her door. She finds herself on her way to her sisters wedding and the fun unfolds.
Clarity was a quick read. The book is interesting because there is a lot of sensory detail due to the protagonist being blind. Despite her disability Helen is willing to overcome her obstacles. This book makes you want to root for her and see her happy. The dialogue between the characters is funny and entertaining. There is a hint of romance to come and a thrill of discoveries. This book will leave you wanting to read the sequel.
Clarity could have been longer. There was a lack of romance for this novel being a contemporary romance. Many readers will expect t some sort of sex scene in the book but sex is only referenced to a few times. Readers of romance/erotic genre may be left feeling a little cold after reading this one because it is not very steamy.
The events in the book are brief. I think it would have been better had there been more background for the doctors that come to visit or possibly more background for her before her traumatic event. It was a good premise that could have been indulged a bit more deeply for this book to help the reader connect more emotionally with the characters.
The conclusion to Clarity is a cliffhanger that causes one to yearn to read the next novel. I was disappointed with this cliffhanger ending because it seemed so abrupt. I felt like I was still in the middle of the book when it ended. Clarity was such a short read the second book probably could have just been added in to the first to have a full story line as in most novels.
I would give Clarity a 2 out of 4 stars. It was an ok book because it was a different premise and there was an exciting story behind it. It would have been better with more background, events, and character development. Clarity is available on Amazon Kindle and Barnes and Noble Nook.
