It Ain't me babe REVIEW

Post by Nessie_Bookworm »

*SPOILERS INCLUDED*

I recently read this book and I can only say I was thrilled by it. It's one of my top favorite romance books ever.
'It Ain't me babe', by Tillie Cole, an author with more romance books such as 'Sweet Fall' and 'Eternally North', is an amazingly unique book about the romance between an abuse victim woman and the president of a MC (motorcycle club), with stuttering issues.
Tillie Cole has included amazing assets to the story, including the hero of it, having a speech issue (rare to see such thing in romance books), and other assets such as brainwashing religious secluded groups that abuse their members and mainly the women. The author explains that she has taken several testimonials from ex members of similar groups like that and was inspired to write about them in her book. It has an amazing plot and very unique characters. I strongly recommend it.
So the book begins with the hero, Styx, being a young boy on a little 'road trip' with his father and his father's friend, when he met a young girl behind a fence in what seemed to be a big yard in a secluded place, crying and looking helpless. Styx, who has had a stuttering issue his whole life which eventually leads to him prefering not to talk at all, only rarely, decides to try and communicate with the girl. He's impressed by her 'wolf like' eyes and wants to see what is wrong with her. He keeps struggling to talk to her, but the girl is way too frightened to respond.
Years later, Styx is the president of the Hades Hangmen MC.
On a usual day, Styx and some other MC members find a bruised, bloodied and unconscious girl laying right outside the MC's base. They take her in and try to help her. Soon Styx recognises her as the girl with the wolf eyes, that he was never able to forget during all those past years. Their connection is instant. And that's when their romance begins and their adventure and battle with the brainwashing organising group that Mae (the heroine), and many other women had been kept captive, abused and completely unaware of the world outside of it.
In my opinion the most unique and interesting male characters were Styx and Flame (a member of the MC). Flame is my personal favorite since he's the most controversial and intriguying character I've ever read about. I look forward to reading the book about him that will be releashed on the beginning of 2015.
The only part in the story I didn't very much enjoy, was the graphic scenes and descriptions of the abuse Mae and other girls were going through ever since they were..kids..
But I understand this is all part of the story and the effort of the author to highlight all the darkest sides of such groups that sadly exist in real too. I'm just very 'weak' when it comes to such types of abuse.
Other than that, I absolutely adored the book and can literally not wait enough for Flame's book or at least the next book that is to come this Fall.
I give this book 5 absolute stars although it's worth much much more.
