Beautiful Oblivion is a new release from Jamie McGuire. It can be read as a stand alone book, but there are 3 books released before this one about one of the other Maddox boys, Travis. This book is about Trenton and Cami's story. Cami is a bartender who is going to school part time and Trenton is a tattoo artist. The book tells the story about how Cami moved from a relationship that was lacking nearness to a relationship that gave her everything she seemed to want. The ending of the book left something to be desired, but it is clear the story will continue on in another book. Even though I didn't think this was the best book written by Jamie McGuire, I would recommend you read it especially if you have read her stories about Travis and Abby. If you haven't read Beautiful Disaster, Walking Disaster, and A Beautiful Wedding I recommend that you do. Those books had the angst that a lot of readers like.

Although I did enjoy reading Beautiful Oblivion, I felt like I was trying to get through to the end. You're right, I was expecting angst and I kept waiting for some more angst. Even though I felt aggravated and silly being so enthralled by Beautiful Disaster I still couldn't put it down and I guess that was part of the charm. Oblivion however was definitely lacking. The characters were just kind of blah. Perhaps there could have been more build up in the back story between Trent and Cami. For someone who was in love with this girl all his life, I never really got to the why of it. He just loves her, that's it apparently. As for the ending, let me tell you, I got to that twist and thought, "Oh ok." It would have probably been more jarring with more backstory as well. Sigh.
