The edge of Earth by Christina Schwarz

Post by dean-reader1 »

I fell in love with this author when I read Drowning Ruth. I love her topics and the way she shows internal turmoil within her characters. She does an amazing job at describing her characters and the places they wind up. She unravels the secrets in her own time and I love that just when you figure it out, or at least when you think you do, she drops one more bomb.

The book is about having a planned out life of who you are marrying and what direction you are taking to find that a passion or person steers you In a whole new direction. The character finds herself in love with someone she did you expect or know and then spends this unexpected adventure finding out who he is and more about herself. As she finds herself in a secluded area with her husband maintaining a lighthouse with other people, she comes to know their secrets and is torn by some of the decisions she has to make. It is truly in these times that most characters find out their talents and find their paths.

The only thing I found fault in this book was that I found it slow at first. I found it hard to switch from the info needed to understand where the main character came from to where she was going. I do find that necessary of course is a book I just felt that maybe there should have been more drama or background in her relationship with Ernst that would have made me feel torn when she left him or more stolen moments between her and Oskar. I didn't feel this huge connection to either men.

What I did love was the main character Trudy and how she evolved. Which is why I would recommend the book, but if you are expecting a "can't put it down book" you will not see that until you get more into the center of the book. I will continue to read her books. She is a very talented author.
