Review of The Herbalist

[Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of "The Herbalist" by Heather Morrison-Tapley.]
This book, The Herbalist, by Heather Morrison-Tapley is a fictional piece that has twenty-three chapters. This romance novel tells the story of a beautiful young woman, Eden, who is on a journey of self-discovery. The story begins with the news from Susan, Eden’s mother, calling to inform Eden of her grandmother's death. Eden going to seek solace in the home and arms of her fiancé, Robert, walks into a shocking event. Heartbroken by the tragic loss of her grandmother and the discovery of Robert’s actions, she decides to put her life in New York on hold and travel to England. Bob helps her secure a one-year sabbatical and gives her an open cheque to decide whether to come back to her life and work as a professor or not.
There are lots of positive aspects to the book. I enjoyed reading about the character Eden. She is a very inquisitive character. We see her inquisitiveness in her meetings with Mrs. Welsh, her visits to the old ruin that was once a church, and trying to find who owned Mere Lane. We see her compassionate part when she adopts a stray dog, Wellie, who takes care of Tommy and helps Mr. Bert with the assistance of James to renovate and clean the old man’s home.
I like how the author made the book very visual; I could easily visualize and feel the events in this book like I was watching a movie. Also, I like how progressive the story was. It follows the doubts, fears, and general emotions of the characters; this is very commendable. The author teaches the readers kindness from the character of Eden. For instance, she showed kindness when she helped comfort the dog. I could feel her compassion when she took care of Mrs. Welsh, who was sick. She also brought stew to Mr. Bert because he was lonely after what happened. The book is written in simple English, and it is straightforward to understand and digest. The book made me tear up a couple of times. I could not believe that the author could make me tear up a little. This book was amazing. There were very few errors in this book; it was professionally edited.
The only negative part I can pinpoint is the unbelievable fact that she worked as a professor for twenty years when according to the book, she is supposed to be thirty-eight years old. If it’s perhaps an oversight by the author or, in fact, intentional, I cannot tell.
I give the book a rating of 4 out of 4 because I savored every chapter of the book, and I also learned a couple of things from it. Not minding the negative aspect I mentioned above, this book is worthy of a perfect rating.
I recommend this book to every lover of romance fiction. If you crave books with a touch of romance and happy endings, this book is for you. This book is also suitable for lovers of fiction.
