Review of Looking Glass Friends
Do soulmates exist? Most people are not entirely sure about this answer. They are skeptical. That was Neil and Ellie too. That is, until they met and their lives were rocked before they knew the answer to that question. Yes, soulmates exist because they are each other’s. Ellie is married to Jake and a mother of a five-year-old, and Neil, although married to Fay, is miserable and depressed to the point of contemplating suicide. They accidentally meet at a local bakery where Neil works, and Neil, on a whim, gives Ellie his secret stash of cream puffs. As a thank you, she gives him a copy of her favorite book, "Atlas Shrugged." This starts an unlikely friendship, which later blossoms into love. Ellie’s devotion to her son puts a strain on their relationship because she fears the disruption her falling in love will cause in his life. What will be sacrificed? Is it love, happiness, or the stability of her son?
Looking Glass Friends: A Novel Inspired By Real Love Letters by E. L. Neve is a novel about love, psychology, and soulmates. It follows Ellie and Neil as they fall into what some may call forbidden love. Their love will go through the struggles and hurdles and joyous moments. Put your seat belt on, because this book will take you on an emotional roller coaster. This book is both emotionally and psychologically challenging.
There are so many things I loved about this book. In no particular order, I really loved the author’s descriptive writing style. The author creatively and vividly depicted each scene in such a descriptive way that it is completely clear in the reader’s mind. Another thing I loved was the way the author combined philosophy and poetry to give readers a dose of romance they never expected. I also loved that there was no cheating. The characters’ love for reading was another endearing feature in the book for me. The way they shared and discussed books, such as Atlas Shrugged, the Cloth of Heaven, and Invictus, and the way those changed their mindset and their lives. Another thing I loved was the interaction between them through emails. It was both enlightening and entertaining for me. This book highlights the importance and power of a book. We see this through the transformation of the main characters after reading a book.
I found nothing wrong with this book. The book seemed to have been professionally edited and proofread. The writing flow was perfect. I found no grammatical errors. I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars because anything less would not be fair for such a piece of art. I recommend this book to readers of romance. It will be appreciated by a more mature audience, who can better understand it.
