I think that there should be a balance. While a romance book without smut can be good, smut can add a layer of depth to the relationship and it can also be fun! However, when the smut overrides the plot, it makes the book unbearable to me. Smut should not occur more than character development and story progression.

I really enjoy the +18 content in romance novels because it helps me connect better with the characters, it is more realistic to include desire and erotic scenes in an adult relationship. When that intimate aspect of a relationship is left aside, the story feels incomplete, the moment does not feel so real.

I prefer books with 18+ content but not all authors should include that content in their books because, people's experiences differ and you may find some sexual content written poorly which results to the rest of the book being uninteresting.

I love a romance book whether it is smutty or not. I only want it to have a happy ending and a genuine love connection between the characters.
