Looking Glass Friends is an immediately captivating novel by E L Neve. Neve created a multi-level story that truly delved into the feeling of not only the main protagonists, Neil and Ellie, but also the supporting characters; Jake, Fay, and Johnny. She was able to showcase how the actions of two people, could ripple into the lives of others.

Neil was in a devastating lonely place in his life. He was a man that felt that the mistakes of his past, ruined the possibility of a future worth living. He was hopeless and was living in the shadow of guilt and regret. Neil didn’t have any true connections with people in his mundane existence.

Ellie was a dutiful and prized wife. She was a devoted and loving mother. She was also insecure and lonely. While she lived a privileged life, she wasn’t happy. Her joy was doting on her son and reading the words of great authors.

One day, Ellie felt the urge to connect with an employee at her family’s favorite bakery. She bought him a copy of her favorite book, Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand. That employee was Neil. He immediately devoured the book and returned it… with a note inside.

Thus began a whirlwind romance that brought two lonely people to life. Neil and Ellie were suddenly awakened by the possibility of another person matching their intellect and passions. In ways that their spouses never had. It was as though the starving parts of their souls, were brought out of the shadows and into the light. After the conversations began, they couldn’t stop. Their souls craved the growth and companionship from the letters, emails, and phone calls.

Each individual person had their own identity in the story. Their chapters were different and matched their personalities. It was easy to understand why Neil and Ellie were so eager for the connection they found in one another.

I was refreshed to see the dilemma that a mother has when her child is involved in a bad marriage. So many mothers and fathers stay in marriages just for the sake of the children. Looking Glass Friends put a positive and healthy glow on a dilemma that many parents feel.

I am rating this story 4 out of 4 stars. I hardly found any errors in the book, and it was an uplifting experience. I would recommend this book to any woman and man in my social group who has a soft spot for sweet romance stories, where emotions and connections trump sexual experiences.
