Standing alone on the side of the road in the cold, our main character has no idea how he got there. Hoping to catch a lift, he is picked up by someone who seems rather familiar to him. He is under the impression that this mysterious man is driving him up to London, but when this man stops in the middle of nowhere and talks to our main character like he knows him, he is more than confused.

Stolid by Aaron D. Key is an incredibly well-written and entertaining story about love, fear, and romance.

From the very first chapter, it was easy to feel the emotions the author intended the readers to feel. The love between the main character and the man he believed he had just met was so well-written about it almost felt palpable. I adore books that were obviously written with great care and attention to detail, and this book was one of those.

The author jumps immediately into the story, almost like he was opening the curtain on a play that had already started. The audience is thrown right in with our main character alone on the side of the road with no idea of how he got there. This was a clever way to begin the book as it has the ability to hook readers instantly and keep them captured in the story.

I was slightly worried I would be slightly lost going into this book as it is the third book in the Wheel of Eight series. However, I didn’t once find myself confused as to who anybody was or what was going on. I was delighted that this book was able to be well-enjoyed as a standalone.

I greatly enjoyed the fantastic imagery the author used in the book. The very first example of this was on page 5 when the author wrote “We walked in the pale cast of the Milky Way…” I thought that was a very lovely and unique way of explaining what they were doing. I could see the image so clearly in my head. I found this book to be exceptionally edited, and couldn't come up with a single negative thing to say about it. For the various reasons mentioned above, I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.

I would recommend this book to readers who typically enjoy novels with a touch of mystery and romance. I think I have to say this book would only be enjoyed by readers who are not uncomfortable with the concept of same-sex relationships. It would also be better suited to more mature readers as it does contain some strong profanity and slight sexual themes throughout.
