Looking Glass Friends by E.L. Neve follows the lives of two couples once deeply in love, but now merely existing under the same roof going through the motions of what has become a monotonous life. I quickly found myself sweep away in this beautifully written love story. After a chance meeting where he works, Neil and Ellie begin emailing each other. Through their nightly exchanges over a book that Ellie gifted to him, Neil feels his "flatlined soul" is coming back to life. What begins as a mutual interest develops into a passionate connection as their souls intertwine and they live for their daily correspondence. Their spouses notice a change in them as the relationship grows, but know it is not due to any actions of their own. Hence, comes the dilemma for Neil and Ellie. Do they stay true to their vows or follow their hearts taking a chance on a fulfilling, love-filled life together? This decision is even more complicated for Ellie as she is devoted to her 5-year-old son. The last thing she wants to do is disrupt his life and cause him any pain. In addition, she must decide whether she can leave a marriage where all her monetary wants and needs are met. I felt caught up in their anguish examining my own thoughts and beliefs as emails begin to include occasional phone calls and then actual meetings.

My reaction to the book was very positive and thoughtful. The narration by B.J. Harrison was superb and lent to the upscale tone of the book. His inflections brought each character to life. The writer's poetic style and eloquent choice of words guide the reader on each character's journey and kept me intently listening to discover what direction they would go. The moral dilemmas posed in the book caused me to reflect on my own life and what I might do in a similar circumstance. These attributes kept my interest until the last pages. Unlike many love stories I have read, however, I didn't want it to end. I found myself wanting to know how their lives continued and I would love a sequel.

I do not have any negative comments to share for this book. There were no grammatical errors noted in this audio presentation.

I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars . It is not often that a book has touched me so deeply and caused me to reflect on my own life. While many of today's love stories emphasize the physical relationship between a couple, Looking Glass Friends refreshingly centers around the intellectual connection between two people who find their soul's reflection in each other, a reminder of what keeps a relationship alive.

I recommend this book to mature adults. I would also highly recommend the audiobook version as the narration added a dimension that would not have been possible with reading the book myself.
