Review of Looking Glass Friends
Looking Glass Friends by E.L. Neve is a love story about the battle between brain and heart. Imagine yourself sworn by marriage to someone you vowed your love to. For richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and cherish until death parts you both. Until suddenly, you cross paths with someone who seems to have been made for you. Your encounters are nothing but innocent at first, its not like married people aren't allowed to have friends. But with every letter written, every email exchanged, your connection only grows deeper. Spell binding. Until like moths to a flame, you can't stay away. Until your spouse starts to wonder why you aren't as affectionate as you used to be.
I personally am a romance novel enthusiast, so I really enjoyed this book. I thought it was beautifully written and easy to read. I loved being able to read from the perspective of each character, it made me feel more connected to them. I also appreciated the pacing of the story. I felt like as readers, we were given enough in each chapter to make us want to keep reading and see how things will end. I absolutely loved and adored reading all the letters Ellie and Neil wrote to one another. I think its incredible how the letters written were inspired by real ones.
When I read a book, I like to be warned in advance of any potential triggers. There were a few moments in the book that I feel could be triggering for some people to read. I wish there could have been an authors note in the beginning of the book advising readers to be wary of sensitive topics. For example, there is a moment in the beginning of the book where Neil was pointing the barrel of a gun in his mouth and talking about wanting to end his life. I think its important as an author to be mindful of your readers and provide trigger warnings.
I rate Looking Glass Friends by E.L. Neve five out of five stars. I'm usually pretty stingy with my five stars, but I genuinely enjoyed every aspect of this book. To echo my earlier statement, I do wish there could've been some trigger warning in the beginning of the book. I think its important to be considerate of your audience as you don't know what topics will hit close to home. I chose to rate this book five out five stars in spite of that since it didn't affect the story in itself in any way for me and I enjoyed it nonetheless.
I think romance readers will enjoy this book. Hopeless romantics. I also think people in particular who enjoy a more classical romance, as this gave me a classical romance feel with the intertwining soul connection the characters had along with all the beautiful letters written and poetic styling.
