White Heat by Serge de Moliere is a white-hot, erotic thriller. After Carol and Dugan got married and he moved her to secluded Northern Canada she finally got to see his true character: violent and obsessive. After enduring his outbursts for too long she decides to make a run for it, preferring to put her life at risk in the wilderness than to spend another moment with Dugan. Leaving in haste Carol finds herself ill prepared for survival, and it isn’t long before she finds herself trapped in ice and unable to carry on. Josh finds Carol close to death and brings her to his cabin where he knows he needs to warm her up fast. When Carol awakes in his naked embrace, they both have some explaining to do.

This story was different than I expected it to be. I am giving it a rating of 2 out of 4 stars because I felt like it left a lot to be desired. First of all, I would call this book a short story (on my e-reader it only spanned about 80 pages), but the story definitely could have lent itself to a full-length novel. Before I realized how short it was I found myself thinking that it seemed to be escalating quickly, and before I knew it, it was over!

I was also under the impression that this book walked the line between romance and erotica, but it was definitely more erotic than romantic. This wasn’t necessarily something that I disliked, but I missed the romance. There were romantic touches here and there, but that definitely didn’t come across as the books main priority. I think with a little more dialogue between the characters, and more of a sense of “getting to know each other” it would have been a lot more engaging and suspenseful.

I did like the storyline for this book. The characters were interesting; I just wish there had been some more character development. Josh’s character for instance was very mysterious throughout the whole story. It is obvious that he has a good reason for choosing, or maybe having been forced into, a life of isolation, but that reason is only vaguely conveyed.

I will say that I really enjoyed Serge de Moliere’s style of writing when it came to the details. He has a unique talent for really being able to paint a picture.

Overall White Heat was an enjoyable read. The graphic sexual nature of the story may not be for everyone, but it is also a thrilling and suspenseful read.

Hi all:

Just read the review of "White Heat" which was fascinating.

The novella "White Heat" is classified as an erotic romance and therefore does indeed "walk the line" between romance and erotica. The romantic elements are quite steamy and titillating, and even more so when the allure is for a mysterious stranger. It is intended as a kindle "short" novella and therefore the events do escalate quickly, as does the heat level of the romance. Fans of short, hot romantic encounters with a dash of added suspense will enjoy this style of novella on kindle.

Thanks again for the review.

best regards,
Serge
