Stolid is the story of a young gay man living in the UK in the eighties. It is illegal for gay people to have sexual relations before turning 21 during the eighties in the UK. Stolid is the main character of the story. He never shares his real name and prefers people refer to him as Stolid. Stolid is wandering about on a rainy night, when a mysterious stranger picks him up.

The oddly familiar mysterious stranger takes Stolid to an empty place. As the night progresses, Stolid narrates his life story to the stranger. Who is this mysterious stranger? How is he connected to Stolid? Grab a copy of Stolid to find out.

Stolid is a moderately long book. It is 272 pages long and contains thirteen chapters in total. I must commend Aaron D. Key for writing this amazing book. Stolid is a beautifully written book. The writing has an almost poetic feel to it that evokes emotion. I could feel Stolid’s inner turmoil, anger, confusion, contempt, love, and grief as I flipped through the pages. It made it easier for me to connect with his character.

I could tell that the author time writing Stolid because of how structured the book is. The story majorly unfolds in flashbacks based on Stolid’s narration. It was easy for me to go between the present and the flashbacks. I also like that this book can be read as a standalone even though it is part of a series. I did not feel like I was missing out on any information from the other books.

I love how well Aaron D. Key balanced mystery and suspense in the story. I could not predict the stranger’s identity or how Stolid’s relationship and romances would turn out. This made me more invested in reading the book to see how things unfold. I also like howStolid ends. The book does not have a typical happy ending. However, I like that Stolid ends up resolving the issues he has.

I give Stolid an overall rating of 5 out of 5 stars. This book deserves nothing less than a perfect rating. I do not have any negative sentiments that would result in a star reduction. The story is captivating and covers real issues that readers can relate to. I must also commend the author for the editing. I can tell that Stolid was professionally edited. I did not find any errors while reading.

I recommend Stolid to people who enjoy romance novels. It is an inclusive novel that would be perfect for LGBTQ+ readers. The best thing about this book is that it is part of a series. Therefore, people who enjoy reading Stolid can read the rest of the books in the Wheel of Eight series. This book is not suitable for younger readers because it contains mature content. I also would not recommend this book to anyone intolerant of gay fiction and relationships in general.
