Review of Beyond Despair
[Following is a volunteer review of "Beyond Despair" by Shirley Hoisington.]
Beyond Repair by Shirley Hoisington are about identical twin sisters, Miranda and Cindy. You can only tell them apart by their hair. Miranda had long blond hair below her waist, and Cindy's hair was short blond. Once you get to know them, you can also tell them apart by their personalities. Cindy is more outgoing, loves to dance, and listens to jazz. Miranda is more of an introvert and loves debate and science clubs. The girls grew up in Eugene, Oregon. Their parents died in a car accident, and they moved in with their Aunt Patricia and Uncle Mark.
After the girls grew up, Miranda worked as an office manager for a pharmaceutical company, Barnes and Cummings. Cindy is a fashion designer. Miranda meets and starts going out with a handsome guy named Roger. Everything is lovely, and Miranda soon falls in love with Roger but is afraid to tell him. Cindy comes into town to see her sister. Roger and Cindy meet, and it's love at first sight for them both. Miranda is heartbroken that Roger and Cindy are now a couple. Will she ever get over him? How can she be around them and watch the two lovebirds interact with each other?
The book is a lesson to learn and why you should always tell someone how you feel about them and not let things slip by you. Otherwise, before you know it, it is too late, and you can never return to what you had. It could be a relationship or a person in your life. Things can change in a second, and that person is never in your life again.
Beyond Repair is a true romance novel and one of my favorite genres. It was an easy read, and the writing flowed throughout the story. The characters in the story were well-formed, and you felt that you were peeling away at an onion. The author gave you a layer at a time of the makeup of each character. You felt like you knew not only the characters but also their surroundings. The whitewater rafting was an example of feeling like you were in the boat with them and handling every wave and rock formation.
The book seems professionally edited, although I found a few errors. The errors were minimal and insufficient for me to deduct any points from the review. I rate this book a 5 out of 5 stars. I could find nothing about this book that I did not like. The main character, Miranda, seemed a little naive and childish, but that did not take away from the story. There was no foul language or erotica in the story. It was just a good, clean romance novel.
