Review: Whispers from Yesterday by Robin Lee Hatcher

In the novel Whispers from Yesterday by Robin Lee Hatcher popular Karen Butler struggles when the public discovers about her fathers suicide and very empty bank accounts. With no one and nothing to turn to, Karen goes to live with her grandma Sophia. She goes there with the hope she will inherit her ranch someday. When she arrives though nothing is what she expected. When Sophia sees the resemblance between Karen and her dead sister she decides to give Karen her sister, Esther’s old diaries. Karen very much so wants to move back to L.A. but has nothing to go back to, her father is dead, she no longer has a house, she has no money and has no hope.

I really enjoyed this book and related to more than just one character. Something that does not happen to me often. I would recommend this to teens and adults.

One thing I enjoyed about this book was the way it was written. Essentially two stories in one. Going back and forth from present time to the past. I enjoyed how the past was written in the form of a diary. There is nothing more personal than reading ones diary. There are also many twists and turns that will keep you wanting to read this book.

One nice part of this book was the many underlying messages of the book. The lessons one can learn in everyday life are often, if one looks for them. I always enjoy the way Robin Lee Hatcher slips in scriptures into her book. Some may not like this and say it adds some cheesiness but I really enjoy it and find it encouraging. With her use of scripture in this book we are reminded that only with Jesus can we find true victory. We also see the love of Jesus. We see how much He loves us and gets jealous when we put things before Him whether that is a person or material things. She writes about Jesus very well in this book all we need is Him and His love. If you are going through a difficult time in life, full of despair you need to stop and ask why that is is. He is there, He will never leave you or forsake you. I would recommend this book it may just give you the hope you need. A very powerful read.
