Sleeping with the Enemy by Alexis Adaire is a fiction novel based on CIA technician, Anna Mercer. Anna is a single female who likes a casual fling now and again. She doesn’t look for anything too serious and uses her job with the CIA as an excuse for this. It just so happens one of these said flings puts her in the bedroom of a very dangerous man. While with this man, Anna manages to obtain some very lucrative information for the CIA that ends up getting Anna promoted into a division of the CIA most would believe is a fictional department.
The adventures and training Anna embarks on with her new position, make you laugh as well as keep you on the edge of your seat. In addition to the adventures on the job, Anna develops a love/hate relationship with another agent. The constant pull of their chemistry and denial to the chemistry keeps you reading in hopes of a relationship development between the two of them. The action and romance make it very difficult to put this book down.
The characters are well developed and their personalities jump off the pages. Anna is portrayed as a realistic, average size woman, not some super beautiful fantasy supermodel. She may be average, but she is very good at her job. She is comfortable in her skin and comfortable with her ability to get the job done. Who doesn’t love a woman that is easy on the eyes, good in bed and good at her job?
As far as the missions Anna embarks on as a CIA agent, some of them are absolutely crazy. They very well could be realistic in nature but at times seem very far-fetched. If this was real life, I think some of these missions would not be successful. I love the added action in this romance novel; it gives it so much more depth. I caught myself laughing out loud from some of the missions and the way Anna handles them.
I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and would love to read many more books by Alexis Adaire. I would recommend Sleeping with the Enemy to anyone who enjoys a light-hearted, action-packed romance novel. This is by no means an erotic romance novel. I rate this book, 4 out of 4 stars. This book keeps you on the edge of your seat, a page turner that is impossible to put down.
