Beyond Despair by Shirley Hoisington is a superbly written novel full of romance, passion, twists, turns and raw emotion. Miranda is in love with her twin sister’s boyfriend. She must decide to she tell them the truth, or sacrifice her happiness for her sister.
Shirley Hoisington takes us on a wonderful romantic journey through Miranda’s love life. She writes about believable characters and her descriptions of their emotions make you want to reach out and hug someone. Beyond Despair was fun and easy to read. The conversations were realistic, and characters full of emotions. I haven’t read a book in a long time where you could feel the happiness, joy, pain, love and other emotions so clearly.
Miranda is a selfless, empathetic, strong woman who gives her heart deeply to those she loves. Her family and friends are all very important to her. Cindy, her twin, falls head over heals for Roger, not knowing how her sister feels about him. Watching the bliss of one sister and the torment of another was very emotional. Will they be able to stay close if Cindy and Roger find out the truth? Some of the other characters in the book are very supportive and don’t understand Mirandas’ sudden change. They do their best to keep her occupied without understanding why she seems so distraught.
I also really enjoyed the authors’ description of the different environments Miranda was in. She gave such great descriptions of nature and areas of Oregon; I felt like I was there. I could see through the author’s eyes to see places I wouldn’t have seen otherwise.
I give Beyond Despair a 5 out of 5 rating. It is extremely well edited and enjoyable to read. There was nothing I disliked about the novel. I recommend the book to adults and anyone who loves romance novels. There are some mild sexual situations, but nothing too graphic.
