Review of A Curse of Time and Treasure
Belle, or Tink, as her brothers call her, is a woman who is determined to fulfill her father's legacy. She and her brothers are on an expedition to find lost treasure from the ocean floor on their ship, the NeverLand, that was left to them by their late father. They are on the clock as they have a debt to repay, and if their mission fails, they will most likely have to give up the ship. In addition, Belle begins to hear the call of Andre. He is a man who was cursed to sail the seas until he wins the unconditional love of a virtuous woman. Will Belle find the treasure she seeks before time runs out? Will Andre finally save himself and the crew of his ship from a centuries-old curse? This exciting tale is found in the pages of A Curse of Time and Treasure by SZ Cypress.
What first stood out to me about this book was the character of Andre. He had been sailing around the seas and through time for several hundred years. Through this ability to time travel, he was able to see famous shipwrecks, such as the Titanic, happen in real-time. He also tried to keep up with the times and technology. Though he was not entirely modernized, it was fun to see an ancient sailor keeping up with the times.
Seeing how Andre interacted with Belle was also fascinating. He was not entirely able to shake the values of his time, so he often was surprised by the fierce independence and leadership that Belle showed. These interactions made their relationship feel genuine as their sometimes clashing viewpoints caused realistic amounts of tension.
I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. I found nothing to dislike about it, and therefore no reason not to give it full marks. The realistic characters, building tension, and fast pace kept me engaged from start to finish. The continued references to Peter Pan also added a fun tone. I only noticed a few errors leading me to believe that this book was professionally edited.
The book does contain some strong language and sexual content; it is only suitable for adults. This book is perfect for those who enjoy curses, sunken treasures, and romance. The themes of modern versus old-time values coupled with the dangers of the sea are sure to keep you on the edge of your seat!
