Review of the book "It ends with us", by Colleen Hoover.

Post by biarendafb »

The book “It Ends With Us", by Colleen Hoover, is an emotionally charged and thought-provoking novel that delves into themes of love, resilience, and personal growth.
The story revolves around Lily Bloom, a strong-willed and independent woman who finds herself caught in a tumultuous relationship with the enigmatic Ryle Kincaid. As their relationship evolves, Lily is forced to confront her own past traumas and make difficult choices that challenge her perception of love and self-worth.

The book alternates between past and present perspectives, through letters the main character wrote in the past. That makes the book a whole lot more interesting, since you are dying to know what is going to happen in each one of the perspectives.

One of the most striking aspects of this book is Hoover's ability to create vivid and relatable characters. Lily's journey is both heart-wrenching and inspiring, as she navigates the complexities of love, and personal boundaries. The author masterfully portrays the internal struggle faced by Lily, allowing readers to empathise with her emotional turmoil and cheer for her growth.

The book does deal with some heavier topics, though, so it would be ideal to first check the trigger warnings, such as: domestic violence, sexual assault, attempted rape, alcohol abuse…Hoover explores those heavy themes by offering a poignant and thought-provoking portrayal of these issues. Through compelling storytelling, she sheds light on the difficulties faced by individuals who find themselves in abusive relationships, while simultaneously imparting a message of hope and empowerment.

The narrative is skillfully woven, with unexpected twists and turns that keep readers engaged from start to finish. The pacing is excellent, and the alternating perspectives provide a well-rounded exploration of the characters' motivations and emotions.

"It Ends With Us" is a book that elicits a range of emotions, from heartache to hope. It encourages readers to question societal norms, challenge their preconceived notions about love and relationships, and ultimately, find the strength to break free from toxic cycles.

In conclusion, Colleen Hoover's "It Ends With Us" is a powerful and unforgettable novel that tackles difficult subjects with sensitivity and grace. Through the captivating story of Lily Bloom, readers are reminded of the importance of self-love, resilience, and the courage to make difficult choices. Hoover's ability to craft a compelling narrative whilst addressing sensitive topics with grace and authenticity is truly commendable.

I absolutely loved this book, and would totally recommend it to anyone out there who isn't very sensitive when it comes to heavy topics. I must confess I was even in a bit of a reading slump after reading this book, because I couldn't stop thinking about it. The book is a must-read for anyone seeking a thought-provoking, emotional rollercoaster of a journey, and I definitely recommend it!!
