This novel is a tale of a senior citizen romance: the main character finding love, despite her age and building a wall around her due to being a victim of abuse. The author immediately grabs the reader’s attention by utilizing foreshadowing: with]miss Charlotte O'Malley who, despite her age of seventy-five years
is still as striking ever, waiting for her guests. Miss O’ Malley sets the whole stage for this romance novel.

In 2004, charlotte is just living her life , handling her abusive father in a nearby care home as he descends into lewy body dementia. She’s living life as a successful hotel manager, until a chance meeting with Brandon, a married, in the midst of marital issues, Lutheran pastor taking a respite to write a book about sex and spirituality changes her love life. Despite his” “good, family man” persona, their relationship quickly evolves from secret chats and dinners to a sexual one. Charlotte is a wise character, throughout the novel, she consistently grapples with knowing he’s truly not meant for her, constantly feeling alone, specifically when he has to still tend to his marriage, as he hasn’t responsibly cut it off in order to pursue her. A life changing event pushes her to take a spiritual seminar in Ireland, which serves as a catalyst to the dynamic changes in her character we witness upon the return of her trip, bringing her more peace, tranquility, and love than she would have ever dreamed of.

It was a little work deciphering the several subplots which holds it back from getting a 5 out of 5, but this book deserves 4 out of 5 stars because Charlotte is fully developed as a character; she’s an ex-alcoholic, victim of abuse who found it hard to be loved, but in the end, she chooses self-love and acceptance. it was a little confusing with a lot of sub plotBrandon appears to be more of static character-despite the plot twist provided by his wife as an explanation of her “coldness” and
lack of attraction toward him. He ultimately remains the same. Although the book deals with too many plots, the author’s rich, descriptive language and use of literary devices such as cliff hanger, and use of alliteration enriches the book’s quality. Overall, the book is captivated with plots and twists, as miss charlotte being involved with a married man turns into a story of judgment to redemption, one where lessons are learned and charlotte gets the love she truly deserves by learning to love herself.
