Review of From A Distance

Six years after graduating from high school, Artsy and Parker have fallen in love. The only problem is that an ocean separates them as she completes two years studying art history at the Louvre in Paris, and he is working toward an engineering degree at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. In From A Distance by Gwendolyn Morey Skeens, you will follow Artsy and Parker as they pursue their goals while trying to keep their love alive. Is the old saying, "absence makes the heart grow fonder," true? Or is their love for each other doomed?
I enjoyed learning about art history through the descriptions Gwendolyn Morey provided about Artsy's projects. Not only did I learn some new French words because the author defined them, but I also found the history of France intriguing. The background information about the effect of global warming on farming operations and our food supply was thought-provoking. I will not give away any spoilers, but you will find Parker's and Ezra's final solution to global warming interesting. The author's skill in combining romance, art history, adventure, and environmental issues in the plot made this book an enjoyable read.
The first few chapters were slow, but they allowed me to learn background information about the characters and how diversity plays a positive role in our society. This book has a well-written and smooth-flowing plot that kept me engrossed from beginning to end.
I decided to give this professionally edited book 5 out of 5 stars. My reading enjoyment, the author's devotion to making the book easy to read by defining French words, and her focus on morals and diversity justify my rating.
Mature readers who enjoy adventurous romance books that revolve around art history and environmental issues affecting farmers are the ones I recommend this book to. There is a small amount of religious content that may be offensive to non-believers.
