Damaged Hearts by Jan St. Marcus opens with Brandon, a young homeless man, being tormented by a group of frat boys. Brandon remains unharmed, thanks to the help of a handsome stranger, Michelangelo. Michelangelo invites Brandon to his home afterward for a shower and a meal. The two begin to form a strong bond and feelings for each other, though neither identifies as gay. Will the two be able to process their feelings in a healthy way? Will the incident with the frat boys have repercussions? Grab a copy of Damaged Hearts and find out!

This book explores themes of developing relationships that I thought were fascinating. Both Brandon and Michelangelo were social outcasts in their own ways. Brandon was a veteran who was homeless following his medical discharge from the military. As a homeless person, he was generally ignored by most people. Michelangelo was rather socially awkward and was still grieving from the death of his twin brother. The two quickly bonded with each other, though that didn't stop past trauma from creeping back in at times. I thought that Marcus did an excellent job of developing their relationship without canceling their personalities or backstories.

This book, though a longer one at about 450 pages, moves along quickly. This can be attributed to the combination of the budding relationship between Brandon and Michelangelo and the tension as the frat boys dream of revenge. The book moves the point of view across several characters which gives a well-rounded overview of the events happening. Several of the points of view give insight into the more action-heavy part of the story. This kept the book moving along at a fast pace and made it hard to put the book down.

I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. Given there was nothing I truly disliked about this book, I can see no reason to give it any other rating. It was also exceptionally well-edited; I spotted no errors throughout the book. This book is best suited for adults who enjoy books that feature LGBTQ+ romances. It should only be read by those who are comfortable with explicit sexual content and strong language. From start to finish, this book is an amazing mix of romance and action. The two main plot points weave together to create a vibrant story that I was delighted to have been able to read!

This review is helpful, sufficient, and motivating. It provides an insightful overview of the book, highlighting its themes, character development, and pacing. The positive rating and mention of the book being well-edited add credibility. From the reviewer's perspective, it appears to be a good addition to anyone's library, particularly for adults who enjoy LGBTQ+ romances and are comfortable with explicit content.
