Everly is considered to be a rogue because she got pregnant from a one-night stand. In her world, where everyone has a mate, having children outside of that bond is taboo. However, only the women are punished. Everly was supposed to take over as the Alpha of her pack. Instead, she was banished when she became pregnant, and the father, who happened to be her mate, refused to acknowledge her or admit he slept with her. Will Everly make it as a rogue and provide a good life for her child? What happens when her mate, another Alpha, realizes that Everly is his mate and has had his child? Find out by reading Alpha's Regret by Jessica Hall.

This book stems beyond a simple romance novel. The society that Everly lives in is ruled by sexist laws. The women, if they are impregnated by anyone other than their mate, are shunned from society. However, there are no consequences for the men, even though it takes two to cause a pregnancy. This reflects sentiments in the real world. I appreciated that Hall wasn't afraid to make a statement with the book. The characters who were fighting against sexist laws are reminiscent of those involved in real-life movements.

I also appreciated the lengths to which Everly went for her child. When she was first banished, she was living in her car, and she wondered if giving up her child would be better for him. Her determination to give her child the best, even if she suffers, continues throughout the entire book. I appreciated that consistency.

I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. There was nothing that I truly disliked about it. It had excellent world-building and was well-edited. The book does contain strong language and sexual content; this book is only suitable for adults. I recommend this book to fans of romance who enjoy world-building and social commentary. It is best for those who enjoy magical elements such as shapeshifters.

It is therapeutic to read books of fiction that deal with social issues. I gather that this book was one of those. Everly's character is a good role-model for women who might find themselves in the same situation. Thank you for this well-written, concise, and informative review.

This is my genre; I suspect werewolves might be part of the story. There's no harm in including a social commentary in a work of fiction, and this point of women being blamed for pregnancy and men getting off freely is real, even though it's wrong. I'm adding this one to my list, thanks.
