Review of Looking Glass Friends
Neil was stuck in a mental prison because of depression. He was considering suicide until Ellie went into the bakery with a book for him. Neil read the philosophy book and knew his life was going to change forever. Here was a person who was on the same level as him. A tree fell on the bakery, so Neil took his wife, Fay, to Hawaii. He took the book back to the store with a letter to Ellie. His boss promised to give Ellie a book and letter while Neil was headed on a dream vacation. He thought of Ellie the entire trip, wondering if this could be someone who could become a real-world friend.
Meanwhile, Ellie lives in a loveless marriage. She appeared to have the perfect life on the surface. Her husband was a wealthy antique dealer, her son was bright, and she could have anything she wanted. Ellie didn’t work and focused on her passion for turning poetry into art. When she received Neil’s letter, she dismissed it at first. However, something told her that this was a person she could be friends with because of their shared interests. Upon returning to the bakery, she included her email and cell phone number with her response. The two began writing emails, baring their souls to each other through their correspondence.
Looking Glass Friends by E.L. Neve is a story of pursuing true happiness and discovering what genuine love looks like. Ellie was a trophy wife who exhibited innocence and purity. Despite having a child together, Ellie no longer shared her bed or her dreams with her husband. Neil’s bleak outlook on life changed so dramatically that his wife noticed. Interesting details brought suspense to the story as Ellie and Neil became further enmeshed in their thoughts. Fay and Jake were aware of the communication between Ellie and Neil, which added more tension to the story.
Looking Glass Friends earns five out of five stars. The editing was flawless. The exceptional details gave a captivating view of the connection developing between Neil and Ellie. Fay and Ellie were both naive young women who married men they felt were perfect. The book is divided into two parts, with the first part depicting the sharing of minds and souls evolving into love. The second half depicts the ending of two marriages as four people change their views.
I recommend Looking Glass Friends to romance fans who like to see how a simple act of kindness can bring two people together. There is some profanity and an attempt at rape that could be offensive to some readers. This novel would be best suited to young adults who can see how love is more than a physical action. Love is the connection of the mind, body, and soul between two people.
