The book “Guilty of Stealing His Heart” by Nancy Lynn White revolves around five-year-old Carrie, sent to an orphanage by her parents. Eventually, she meets a man named Philipp and gets married to him at 21. Philipp is a bank owner, and Carrie is grateful to have gained the security and opportunities that come with his status. Unfortunately, he is found guilty of bank robbery and the murder of a Pinkerton agent named Hank Lipton. In light of these events, he leaves her to suffer the consequences of his actions. With the zeal to create a new path for herself, she heads to California with Ruth, her best friend from the orphanage.

The book is set within the landscape of the 19th century. I found it quite appealing as to why Carrie’s parents would abandon her to an orphanage, despite both being alive. Unfortunately, her father believed women were useless. He gets mean with Carrie and her mother because of Eduard, her sickly brother. This creative masterpiece boasts numerous unique characteristics, such as Carrie, Ruth, JT, Billy, etc.

I find its opening pages enthralling, as the author uses simple language to engage readers. Furthermore, I felt deeply connected to Carrie, as I felt every emotion she experienced. The author meticulously crafted titles for each chapter, with the date and year of events that occurred. The author gradually builds the plot, creating unexpected twists and turns. The book mainly consists of dialogue, as it helped me better understand the characters’ thoughts.

I thoroughly enjoyed the book, with no criticisms to point out. The book was nearly error-free, and it boasts professional editing. I give it a well-deserved 5 out of 5 stars for imparting wisdom and positive values. It is recommended for lovers of historical romance and realistic stories. In addition, readers who enjoy books with dynamic pacing and unexpected twists will find it an immersive read. Although the author infused Bible verses in the chapters, it is not categorised as a Christian book.
