Review of Xavier's Angel
Xavier’s Angel by Jeanette Lacey opens up with Xavier in his office as he is about to close a deal. From the first appearance, it is clear that Xavier is a strong, handsome, and confident man who knows what he is doing. It is shortly revealed that in the business circle, he is nicknamed the Devil. That’s because of his brutal nature in securing deals and making moves that are different from his peers. This particular deal he is working on right now comes with certain strings. He meets Baldwin, who gives him a strange proposal before he can sign off on the deal Xavier has put forward. Xavier has no problem with it and asks for specifics, and what he learns leaves him disturbed and determined.
Ashlynn is a beautiful young woman. Her relationship with her father is not perfect, but that is normal in any daughter-father relationship, right? Wrong. Ashlynn’s father is one different character who goes to greater lengths to get what he wants, not caring who he sacrifices on the way. Ashlynn is oblivious to the plans her father has in motion regarding her. He wants to sell her off on a secretive, illegal auction between his friends. When Ashlynn learns of this, she is expectantly livid. That’s when her path crosses with that of Xavier. Meeting like this, they are both uncertain how their relationship will unfold. What will they do? Can Xavier help Ashlynn get away from her father? If so, how? Is he prepared to pull all the stops for Ashlynn? And why would he bother? I mean, it’s not like they know each other anyway. Or do they?
Find answers to these intriguing questions by reading all the pages of this erotic, steamy romance novel. I enjoyed reading this book. It was written so well, and it was on point. I loved that the author did not beat around the bush in pushing the messages forward. Everything was spot-on and concise. I loved the characters, the plot, the pace, the writing, the mood, and the organisation of the book. The author paid great attention to small details to deliver this believable story that moved me.
There were not that many characters in the book. It was Xavier and Ashlynn, the leading characters, and the few supporting ones like Winton, Baldwin, Roman, Malex, and others. The author did this so she could take time to develop them. From the first appearance of Xavier, we got the impression of what kind of person he was, what he did, and why. Then, when Ashlynn appeared, it was the same, but with different twists. As a reader, I found myself invested in their journey to find where they would end up.
The plot was thick enough to last to the very last page. It didn’t run out in the middle and end up feeling forced. This was achieved because of the small subplots that appeared here and there to supplement the overall plot. The tension between Xavier and Ashlynn was palpable. Although the former was saving the latter from a dangerous man, his feelings got involved too. Would he set them aside to make sure she was safe, or would he let them get in the way? This was a technique that drew me to the book. The writing was superbly done. Both the narration and dialogue worked well in ushering the story to the reader. The narrative with its descriptions made sure I felt myself in there and not like I was waiting outside looking in. They painted the images vividly while making sure that the pace of the book was steadily rising as the pages turned. The dialogue brought the characters to life by giving them voice and personality, making them interesting.
As I have said, this was a steamy romance, so of course the sex scenes were described to the T. I saw them like I was watching a film, and I think the author did a great job. I appreciated that they weren’t overly poetic, risking them coming across as pretentious and corny. They described them as they were, and this made them realistic. This sustained the mood of the book. When it was getting dark, they lightened the book and did not make it depressing.
There’s nothing to dislike about the book. It was exceptionally edited because I saw only one error. I rate this book five out of five stars. I recommend it to people who love steamy romances. It would be suitable for mature adults because of the nature of its explicit and strong language. The conclusion wrapped up the book so well and left a smile on my face. Read this book now; you will love it.
