Embrace the history, romance, and legacy as you follow the hospitable Jaskin family in R.A. Lee’s The Fountain of Truth. The prologue begins, “Everyone has a tale. A story that defines them. A legacy to pass on to future generations.” Every year, Gran-T, the matriarch of the Jaskin family, tells the story of the fountain. She shares the history of their people and why the fountain is so important.

Tim Jaskin is the male heir to whom the duty falls to restore the fountain and save it from eminent domain. The town council wants to remove it in the name of progress. Gran-T is Tim’s grandmother, who urges him to take a stand. Along the way, a young lady named Cherish experiences car trouble near the fountain. She cannot book a hotel room because it is the Fourth of July weekend. Joseph, the mechanic, cannot repair her car because his wife goes into labor. He tells her that she can stay at Gran-T’s house. After giving her directions, he leaves her standing in the rain.

Cherish walks through town in the rain to find Gran-T, who offers to let her shower and stay in the guest house. Cherish enjoys visiting with the family. The history of the fountain of the fountain mesmerizes her. She, too, urges Tim to restore the fountain to its former glory. Will he try? Can he succeed? I cannot say much more without revealing substantial spoilers. Get your copy of the book today and dive into the fountain.

I like Lee’s engaging storytelling style. It is almost like sitting by a warm hearth listening to her tell the story. I enjoy the way she reveals the characters’ points of view both through their thoughts and the fluent dialogue. Her masterful use of this technique keeps the tone and pace of the novel fluid, lively, and relatable.

I found nothing to dislike about this book. It is exceptionally well edited. I did not notice any editorial errors at all. For these reasons, I am happy to rate the book 5 out of 5 stars. I recommend this book to adults and older teens because of mature themes that are inappropriate for younger readers.
