This book is about a disbeliever of love- Mariette Randolf who moves to Fort of Krenery from Chicago to take her nephew Zack. Zack's parents,Kate and Clint were killed by some savages. Kate was Mariette's sister. Mariette always loved to live in the city. She was a woman of high standards. She always blames 'love' for being the reason of Kate's death. She believed that only city life was peaceful. So,she wanted to take Zack with her to Chicago to provide him a great future. But Zack didn't want to go with Mariette cause he was habituated to live with Jasson(Clint's close friend). Mariette develops feeling for Jasson and how that happens,that is how Mariette's heart changes you have to find that out by reading the book. Will Mariette leave Jasson and go back to Chicago?? Or she will settle with him like her sister settled with Clint?? Suspense remains.
