Devilish by Tricia Barr is a fantastical erotica based on the infamous story of the biblical struggle between Lucifer, God, and the other archangels. The story surrounds the life of Felicity and her desire to impact the world with hard hitting journalism, while also exploring how the world reacts to Lucifer’s presence. Danger ensues as Felicity gets closer to the Devil himself for one story and the potentially catastrophic truth hidden within a company called Elektra Pharmaceuticals for another. Barr takes the audience on a sexy and thrilling trip as Felicity discovers the truth about her own life, her past, and has to make a choice that could change the future for all of mankind.

Outside of all the complicated facets of the story, I enjoyed how simply exciting it was, whether it was during Felicity’s encounters with Lucifer himself or one of the other intense situations she was in. Even the situations that may not have been life altering. The scenes were all spaced out enough to where the story was not jam packed with danger, but there were still enough of them to keep me interested. Overall the story developed at a wonderful pace.

I also loved the twists at the climax of the book when Felicity finally discovers the truth. Barr’s insinuation about who may have truly been culpable for the events that transpired in the story was a pleasant touch. The irony of the story as a whole was also compelling, not only did Barr make a highly stigmatized figure into the hero in the eyes of the protagonist, and the whole world, but she also made the most powerful deity in the universe and a presumably trustworthy character into the victim and the villain respectively.

Concerning the protagonist, Felicity, I love how relatable the character was. Everyone struggles with facing professional ambition, loss, and their own sexuality at some point in their lives. This ability for the readers to so easily connect is so important in stories like these, where most of the readers are looking for an escape from their own lives. And if they can so easily identify with the protagonists characteristics, it will be even easier for them to become immersed into the story.

Overall I give this story a 4 out of 4 because I found very few grammatical errors, the story progressed at a nice pace, and there were no holes left in the plot of the story. I believe that this book will appeal mainly to young professional women, since the main character is a woman who was extremely focused on her own career. It will most likely appeal the least to young children, some teenagers, and most young men. I say most because some young men may find the erotic nature and dangerous situations the protagonist encounters enjoyable, but from personal experience I do not believe many of them will.
