Welcome to high-society New York City, and the lives of the Benedict sisters. Four sisters with four different fathers who grow up with an unpredictable mother in the lap of luxury sets the tone for the beginning of what promises to be an exciting series. Even though Calder Benedict still lives in the mansion she grew up in with her sisters, mother, and beloved housekeeper, she has made a name for herself having created and grown a multi-million dollar charity, Erica’s Angels, to benefit children in need. Fending off fortune hunters has made her wary when it comes to men, and no push over. She might seem like a spoiled rich girl at first glance, but there’s plenty more to discover for any man who will just be honest with her.
Adam Stone is a self-made man, ex-navy, jack of all trades, and knows everybody. He first meets Calder when he rescues her from a date gone wrong, and she mistakes him for a bouncer. Soon, they can’t stop running into each other. Honest, hardworking, and willing to put in the work to make a relationship with good foundations, he’s just what Calder needs to wash away the memories of failed relationships, an unreliable father, a revolving door of step-fathers, and a general distrust of male interest in general. He’ll need to win over Calder, her sisters, their motherly housekeeper, and be able to handle the drama that comes with the Benedict fortune. Fortunately, it seems that he’s just the man for the job.
One Way Or Another is written by Mary J. Williams, and is the first book in a promising quartet I am very excited to continue reading. It is a modern contemporary romance with a little bit of thrilling drama and suspense that keep the 411 pages flying. The character development was on point, by the end of the book I felt like I knew not only the main two character but also their friends and family and I desperately wanted more.
My favorite part of this book was how the characters actually dated, which I find doesn’t actually happen much in romance novels. I enjoyed their dates, their conversations, and how they got to know each other before just getting to the hanky panky, while still keeping the book hot and exciting! If you’re looking for something that is exciting without being over the top risque this is definitely the book for you. I enjoyed that the author spent more time on character development and story telling then on time in the bedroom. This is definitely romance, not erotica.
This book, One Way Or Another by Mary J. Williams, definitely deserves a rating of 4 out of 4 stars. It delivered on everything I expect from a good romance novel. It satisfied me emotionally, and intellectually, without being too intense or over-analytical for a lighthearted casual read. A must read for anyone looking for a new contemporary romance series that likes a touch of drama with their romance, and appreciates an author who edits their novel thoroughly and fully develops all the characters. I am very excited to begin reading the next book in the series.

Thanks for the reply! I'm glad you liked my review! I definitely hope you read the book, and find out how it turned out!joycechitwa wrote: ↑13 Aug 2018, 11:56 Wow, I like your review. The book is a romance, but with a healthy dose of character and plot development to fully engage a reader. The two main characters sound like people I would like to know more about. I would also be interested to learn how Adam overcame all the hurdles presented to him, to end up winning over the love and trust and Calder. Thanks for this!
